Dental Implants: The Modern Tooth Loss Solution

When most people think about adults with missing teeth, they tend to conjure up images of Grandma and Grandpa and their notoriously slippery dentures. However, tooth loss is not just for those advanced in age, it can actually strike anyone at any time. Think about it: tooth loss can occur as the result of a sudden accident like a car crash or a sports injury. And it can also unfold over a long period of time on account of untreated gum disease or tooth decay. Regardless, it will be a painful and traumatic situation. Fortunately, if it ever takes its toll on you, you won’t have to turn to old-fashioned dentures for a solution. That’s because at our Alpharetta, GA dentist’s office, we can set you up with a modern, secure, and permanent treatment: dental implants.

Keep reading to hear more about what dental implants can do to improve your situation, and then be sure to schedule your restorative dentistry consultation with Dr. Morton. One way or another, the team here at Mint 32 dentistry will get you smiling big again.

You’ll Be Missing More Than Teeth

Here’s the thing: living without a complete set of teeth will adversely impact things you may or not have thought about until you are forced to accept this way of life as your new reality.

For one thing, you won’t be able to enjoy all the foods you used to love to sink your teeth into. Because of your decreased chewing capacity, you will have to settle for softer, often less-nourishing menu items. As you can imagine, your health will soon be on the decline because your body is not able to get the nutrients it needs to run at full-throttle.

Then there is the embarrassment factor. Because you will have holes in your smile (and eventually your cheeks will collapse), you won’t be up for any more social interaction than is absolutely necessary. Your self-confidence will plummet and you will always be wondering what others must think. This could adversely impact your professional advancement and personal enjoyment.

This is not any kind of way to go through life. And that is where we come in to save the day with dental implants. This is a simple two-step procedure (that does involve a minor surgery) with far-reaching benefits including a boost in health, appearance, confidence, and satisfaction levels. We can get the job done easily and painlessly and we even have some good options to discuss during your consultation.

What Types Of Dental Implants Are Available?

We use standard titanium dental implants for our procedures. This type of dental implant is trusted in the industry for nearly all implant applications, and it will be able to serve you well for either your upper or lower jaw. We can provide several different implant applications depending on your situation.

Single-Tooth Replacement

This is one of the simpler replacement options: one missing tooth that is treated with one dental implant with a crown placed on top of the implant to fill out your smile. Just so you know, this crown is different from the traditional crown that acts like a cap and goes over an existing tooth. This type of crown is not a cap but an actual solid replacement tooth that is designed to handle the biting forces in your mouth.

All-on-4 and All-on-6

This application is used to replace a whole arch of teeth with four, six, or more dental implants. Here’s how it works: Dr. Morton strategically places the implants around your dental arch, with two angled at the back of your jaw for stability, and then attaches a dental restoration to the implants. Many of our patients prefer the Prettau bridge made of zirconium to give a perfectly natural look. This gives you the look and function of a full arch of teeth without using an implant for every missing tooth.

Implant-Supported & Implant-Retained Dentures

Dental implants are able to give you a superior level of support and stability when used with dentures. Implant-supported dentures use a few implants to keep your denture in place. A bar runs from one implant to the others and attaches to the back of the denture to keep it in place. With implant-retained dentures, the implants have ball fixtures placed on top of them, and the denture has matching receptacles on the underside to snap into the balls. Either way, your smile wins. No more slipping and sliding like old-school dentures!
