Do you find yourself waking up constantly at night? Has your snoring reached a level that keeps your family up? Are you tired all the time, no matter how long you sleep? You may be suffering from a sleeping disorder called sleep apnea. Mint 32 Dentistry can help you work through this disorder so you can get the rest you need.
What Is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is a disorder that can rob you of the restful night’s sleep you need. It can rob your loved ones of their rest as well. One of the most noticeable symptoms of sleep apnea is chronic snoring. This is not the kind of snoring that people can sleep through. This is violent snoring that will keep the people around you up at night. You will also experience a blockage in your airway that will stop your breathing for a brief period of time. This is not a one-time occurrence but rather happens multiple times per hour or even per minute while you sleep. These constant interruptions will cause a restless, not restful, night of sleep for you. Sleep apnea also robs your body of the normal amount of oxygen that you need, and its effects are generally stressful to deal with.
How Can Dr. Morton Help Me?
Luckily, Dr. Morton can help you with your obstructive sleep apnea. Here are the steps that go into getting you the help, and rest, that you need.
- Home Sleep Study – Before you move onto getting any kind of treatment to help your sleep apnea, the first thing that needs to be done is a sleep study to diagnose your condition. A home sleep study will help to determine if you are suffering from sleep apnea. Once the study is complete, the results will be sent out to a sleep physician to determine the presence and level of your sleep apnea. If the physician confirms the diagnosis, you will have two options for treating your sleep apnea from Mint 32 Dentistry.
- Mouthguards – A custom mouthguard helps keep your airway clear while you sleep. This is the first level of treatment available for sleep apnea. Dr. Morton will go over the results of your sleep study and the recommendations from the physician to determine the correct treatment for your condition.
- Sleep Appliance – This is a similar treatment to a mouthguard. Dr. Morton can explain the difference to you and also why this treatment may be best to help resolve your sleep apnea.
