Treating Cavities Differently

If you’ve been around the block a few times, you most likely remember those, well, ugly silver dental fillings that used to be the going solution. The effectiveness of these treatments has always been shown to be just fine. still, there have been some very real complaints about the use of metal in people’s mouths.

This is not shocking since amalgam is anything but discreet and so it looks like a dark metallic blotch on your otherwise pearly whites. Additionally, old-school dental fillings can actually make your tooth more vulnerable to fracture and cause damage to the nearby healthy tooth structures.

Here’s the good news: at our practice, we can now offer a new, safe, and aesthetically-pleasing material for fillings: composite. Truth be told, these days, Dr. Morton only uses composite resin filling material. Composite consists of a blend of resins that lends itself well to the appearance of your natural teeth. Unlike metal, these fillings will look and feel like they actually belong in your mouth.

That means we can now fill a cavity very discreetly and the composite resin we use will also have superior bonding properties that allow for increased longevity.

The Low Down

We will start out by numbing the relevant region of your mouth. And if you are anxious about the procedure, we can explore options for relaxing the rest of your body.

Next, we can clean the cavity by removing the decayed tissue. After the cavity has been cleared, we will apply the putty-like composite resin material in thin layers. We will be able to shape these layers to match the surface of your tooth.

Finally, our team will harden the resin with a high-intensity light and polish it to match the shade of your teeth. That’s really all there is to it. Then you’ll be able to take your new and improved smile and share it worth the world. Remember, the material we use is all BPA free and will bond seamlessly with your teeth, so there will be nothing showing in your mouth to remind you of your cavities. No “scarlet letters” as it were.
